Protect yourself and your boat with some suggestions from Cleanie Dini. Get the right gear and be happy waxing your boat. Cleanie Dini Gear keeps your safety in mind while also making your waxing experience stellar.

Shorts

Like a good doctor has his stethoscope, a good waxer has some nice waxing shorts. Now not many people think that you need special gear for waxing your boat, well you really don't, but it sure helps. Try to take a rivet from your favorite pair of jeans and draw it across the front of your boat. Not a pretty picture, it acts like a pencil. So I will list off a few attributes that make a good short.

  • Zipper that isn't exposed (or no zipper at all)
  • No rivets
  • Velcro pockets to keep stuff in (and out of the water)
  • Nice soft fabric
  • Nothing to scratch anything
  • Pretty tight to keep them from catching on anything
  • NICE AND SHORT so you get a nice even tan on those upper thighs

If you have a nice pair of shorts to clean your boat in you will never get nice shorts dirty. You will look good (like Cleanie Dini) and you will not put scratches in your boat.

Sunglasses

As important as your buffer is a good pair of polarized UV Protectant shades. Your eyes are very important and to subject them to the high gloss of your perfect boat. Imagine looking at your white boat in direct sunlight all day. It isn't good for your eyes. I try to always have my shades on when out on the boat, it is just good practice. The value sunglasses have in waxing is maybe more important. When you are waxing you have the possibility of getting particles and dust in your eyes, using sunglasses acts as a crude safety device (if you are interested in complete safety please look online for shatter proof sunglasses) But as far as keeping stuff out of your eyes they have worked fine in the past. This doesn't mean that you can use them to grind your exhaust pipes in the garage just use them to keep wax out of the eyes. In addition they cut down the glare of the sun so you can see what your boat finish is really looking like. Having sunglasses lets you look at your boats finish and not see the suns reflection but see any scratches you have to remove, any polish or wax left on the surface and how shiny your boat is without the deceiving suns reflection.
