Squeegees

There are many different opinions on whether or not to use squeegees on cars and boats. Personally, I have not had any problems related to squeegees but many of my compatriots feel that they scratch any finish that they are used on. If there is some filth or grime on your boat and a squeegee is used, the dirt will be pulled across the boat it has the potential to scratch the finish. It is unadvisable to be used on a dirty boat but if you have just washed your boat Cleanie Clean then it serves as a speedy way to fight off water spots.

Normally, I like to start on the windows or Isinglass from top to bottom then work down getting smooth fiberglass that is horizontal or parts that have the sun beating down on them. Usually, I use both a squeegee and some sort of chamois. By using this combination you can dry any boat in no time. With a little practice you will figure out what works best for you. With your own system in place you will be the envy of the marina.

There are a number of different squeegees, here in the 21st century some like to call them "Water Blades" and California Water blades is the inventor of the T head silicone water blade. I first saw it on an infomercial and thought it was a load of infomercial idiocy. But a boat I was on used one and I was amazed how quickly it dried smooth fiberglass and windows without a hint of any mark. Now California Water Blades has a whole marine division know as Swobbit. Some of their tools will be on the site soon under product reports. So take a look. Some other squeegees are made of hard rubber and some even leave big black streaks on the boat... So be careful of cheap imitations. As always I am on the constant search for more squeegees to make washing your boat that much more of a party!
